I’m very glad you’re here.

Writing can help us build empathy, make meaning out of memories, heal from trauma, and so much more. There is value in your creative endeavors, and while that value can sometimes include dollars, the worth of this work also encompasses so much more.

This is not a “how to become a zillionaire freelancer in 10 steps” kind of newsletter. Instead, let’s read and think and consider how to develop a sense of purpose for yourself and your creative work.

A little about me …

I’m a writer from Wisconsin with a passion for small towns. I hold an MFA in creative writing and an MA in journalism, and my fiction has appeared in Barren, Nimrod, The Fiddlehead, Allegory Ridge, and elsewhere. My nonfiction specialities include women’s history, offbeat travel, and profiles of artists and entrepreneurs, which are published in Atlas Obscura, Discovery, Verge Magazine, and other magazines.

I live near Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and am represented by Erin Clyburn at the Jennifer de Chiara Literary Agency. My novel-in-progress is about a young woman who thinks she can levitate, and her belief in her special ability has a profound effect on her troubled Midwestern hometown.
